President from 2013 – Des Clague
I was born on the Isle of Man in 1946, following my early education I attended Kensington Road Art School in Douglas to learn a career in Commercial Art with the guidance of Norman Sayle and Eric Houlgrave.
I started my career with MDD a design studio in Northfield, Birmingham in 1965.
Later with much experience behind myself I created a design studio with Telford Press, Kidderminster who printed many of the carpet manufacturing brochures. In 1975 I joined Stowe and Bowden a Manchester advertising agency who owned an Isle of Man agency Gore Advertising where I was asked to set up a creative department.
Returning to the Island I found inspiration from its beautiful land and seascapes so much so that I put pencil to paper and so a new Manx artist was born.
Hello! I have been a member of the Art Soc.since 2007, I was first inspired by my husband Robbie and my mother in-law Lilli Moore who are also members.
I have not done anything artistic since I was at high school some 30 years ago, so 6 years ago I gathered some paper and paints together and never looked back, I regularly attend Tuesday and Thursday evenings and since I have joined the Art Society my art work has improved immensely. Thanks to guidance of Catherine James and other members who attend.

The fact that I am now retired after some 20 years teaching at QEII school means I have more spare time on my hands and being on the Arts Society committee gives me a chance to be part of a special organisation which brings a great deal of pleasure to a lot of people.
With regard to my art I enjoy the flexibility of painting with acrylics, not necessarily just for the strength of colour and the ease of use, but also for the fact that I can paint out my mistakes!
